If the length to diameter ratio significantly exceeds 15:1 or if special circumstances result in a particularly high kiln weight or unfavourable distances between supporting stations, the rotary kiln must have more than 3 supports.
This may occur if the process requires long material retention times (long kiln for wet processes), if the kiln is operated with a high filling ratio or if the kiln is equipped with a planetary cooler.
